2012 Hamfest re-Cap

E-mail Print PDF

2012 Hamfest was a Success!

The 2012 Findlay Hamfest was a success.  The weather was great - we only had about three drops of rain at 6 AM before the first  people arrived (it did rain north and south of town - but not at the Fairgrounds!).  It was clear and pleasant the entire time while the hamfest was open.  We had several comments about how good the food was this year!

A new table vendor supplied tables that were 10 times better than the one we have had in past years.  That vendor will be back next year!

We don't have the final ticket count yet, but we do know we had more inside vendors than the past several years. We completely sold out of tables, so for the past two years the hamfest has grown.

The main prize winners were:

Prize #1, Yaesu FT-450D - Kevin Oehlers of Delta OH - no call sign
Prize #2, Yaesu FT-7900E - Billie Dickson of New Concord OH - WB8TRK
Prize #3, Yaesu FT-2900 R/E - Sam Spiteri, Ann Arbor, MI - KD8QES

I will post photos and ticket counts as they come in

Hope to see you all next year (Sept 8)!

2012 DX Awards

E-mail Print PDF

For those of you who were not at the past meeting, and for those of you
who have already forgotten -

There are two DX awards this year that we will be taking a crack at this
year at W8FT. The first is the ARRL Diamond DXCC Challenge marking the
75th anniversary of the DXCC Award. The list of countries used will be
the list as it was when DXCC was first started - with 226 "entities"
making up the list. It is mixed mode/mixed band, so we only need to
work an entity once. More details are available at:

http://www.arrl.org/diamond-dxcc

The other award is CQ Magazine's DX Marathon Award. It is much like the
Diamond DXCC award except that the countries are current, and the 40 CQ
zones are also included. More details are at :

www.dxmarathon.com

If you get a chance to operate at the club, be sure to log your contacts
on the computer so we can compile our score, count countries and zones,
and hopefully get some wallpaper at the end of 2012. remember- you can
use a mic - or even RTTY or PSK31!

The Findlay Radio Club

E-mail Print PDF

The Findlay Radio Club meets on the first and third Thursdays of every month at their clubhouse at 1333 West Sandusky St. in Findlay, Ohio.  The meetings start at 7:30 pm, but folks usually arrive by 7  for some social time together.  The club also gives Exams on the second Saturday of every month except September (our hamfest is that weekend and everyone is there!).  The Exams are given at the clubhouse beginning promptly at 9 AM.

Members participate in many amateur radio activities during the year; for example, Field Day in June when they set up in the field using emergency power and operate for 24 hours contacting other hams around the US and the world.

The club has a history that goes back almost 100 years.

Anyone can join the club.  All you need to do is attend three meetings and have an interest in Amateur Radio.
