Board meeting Notes - Jan 26, 2012

E-mail Print PDF

The following people were in attendance at the Board Meeting this past Thursday:
Bill Kelsey
Clarence Williamson
Jay Wilson
Randy Peterson
Darl Deeds
Jay Edel
Chris West

We had some good discussions.

We still need Hamfest and Field Day Chairpersons...

We have decided to do a combination Open House / Special Event Station on March 31.  Notices will be sent to all the hams in the county.  The mailing notice will include info on the club and an invitation to join.

Jay Edel has been calling people who have dropped out of the club the past several years (or at least had not paid their dues), and he brought in some comments for the board about his conversations.

One of the action items that Came out of the meeting was to produce a document that will provide direction for the club over the next several years - sort of a "Vision for 2020".  I volunteered to take a crack at a first draft of the document and e-mail them to everyone who was at the meeting for comments, suggestions, changes, etc, and see where it goes.  If anyone else in the club would like to be involved - let me know and I will add you to the e-mail list.

The next Board Meeting will be the 4th Thursday  of February (Feb. 23) at 7 PM at the club.  All are welcome to attend.

Findlay Hamfest Re-cap

E-mail Print PDF

After a bit of a shower on Saturday, Sunday was bright and sunny all day long in spite of the forecast for possible showers in the afternoon.

I understand the Division Convention went well, with about 100 people registering, and about 50 people attending the post convention banquet.

Inside vendors were in three building this year (the first time in several years we have needed three buildings!), and the flea market looked good also, although the flea market and attendance in general appeared to be down slightly from last year.

Thanks to everyone who attended the Hamvention and the Convention, and we hope to see you all again next year on September 9 (Sunday of the weekend after Labor Day every year).

2012 DX Awards

E-mail Print PDF

For those of you who were not at the past meeting, and for those of you
who have already forgotten -

There are two DX awards this year that we will be taking a crack at this
year at W8FT. The first is the ARRL Diamond DXCC Challenge marking the
75th anniversary of the DXCC Award. The list of countries used will be
the list as it was when DXCC was first started - with 226 "entities"
making up the list. It is mixed mode/mixed band, so we only need to
work an entity once. More details are available at:

http://www.arrl.org/diamond-dxcc

The other award is CQ Magazine's DX Marathon Award. It is much like the
Diamond DXCC award except that the countries are current, and the 40 CQ
zones are also included. More details are at :

www.dxmarathon.com

If you get a chance to operate at the club, be sure to log your contacts
on the computer so we can compile our score, count countries and zones,
and hopefully get some wallpaper at the end of 2012. remember- you can
use a mic - or even RTTY or PSK31!

Hamfest / Division Convention - 2011

E-mail Print PDF

FLASH - There will be a D_STAR Hotspot available at the Findlay Hamfest this year provided by the Seneca County Amateur Radio Experimenters Group.  It will be on 146.43 MHz simplex, and will be linked to the NODIG Reflector 38C for the Hamfest/convention on Sunday.  During this week it is linked to the NODIG Reflector 38A.  It will be taken down after th Hamfest/Convention.

The 2011 Hamfest / Division Convention will be held Sunday September 11 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. (1017 East Sandusky St., Findlay)  General admission is actually from Fishlock Ave. on the east side of the Fairgrounds.  Vendor and Flea Market admission is from Sandusky St.  Admission is still $6 per person (under 18 is free).  Flea market spaces are $5 per space (large enough for a vehicle and  your "stuff").  Inside tables (8' tables)  are $20- for the fist table, and $15 for additional tables.  A ticket is required for everyone who is attends or works at the hamfest.  Table reservations should be sent to :

FRC Tables
PO Box 587
Findlay, OH  45839

Vendor Letters were sent out on July 13 for vendors who were there last year.  A general hamfest mailing was done in  mid August.  If you have attended the hamfest the past 2 - 3 years, you should have gotten a general mailing.

Vendors who have made reservations to be at the hamfest include:

R and L Electronics
Tower Electronics
A1 Re-Chargers
Amateur Accessories
DC Ace Electronics
Transel
Kanga US
QSRadio
Dentronics
Satellite Sam
Webster Communications
EAE Sales
Debco
National Communications
W8AMZ

PB Consulting
and others.....

We will be opening up a third building for Vendors this year - we are one of the rare hamfests that is actually growing!

There are no advance ticket sales or flea market reservations  - only inside table reservations.

The Great Lakes Division Conventions is being held concurrently with the hamvention.  Your ticket to the hamvention is also a ticket to the convention.  Find out more about the Division Convention here

The Ohio Single Sideband Net will be holding a meeting at Findlay, as will the Mad River Radio Club. Times and places for the meeting will be announced at the hamfest.

Any questions about the hamfest can be sent to N8ET at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

A Hemfest Flier is here.

Hope to see everyone there! (talk-in on 147.15+)
